For made to measure clothing and patterns it is important that we have the correct measurements. A friend can help you to take these as follows:
Use a reliable tape measure, not one that has stretched, frayed, been chewed by the cat or came out of a cracker!
Ask your friend to take the measurements. If you bend down to see the tape, you won’t get the right value.
Measure your actual body size - do not add extra space for comfort as that is done in the pattern making. If you allow extra space the clothes will be too large.
Follow the diagram below taking care to measure around the fullest part of the chest and hips, and the natural waist (for men this is at the bottom rib around elbow height). Height is best measured standing against a door frame and marking the top of the head.
