A family celebrating across a range of periods from Viking to Seventeenth Century.
An old obsession, a new adventure.
In 1987, David joined an organisation called “The Sealed Knot”. He asked Jacqualine, his new girlfriend who knew how to use a sewing machine, to help him make a set of seventeenth century soldier’s clothing. It started an obsession for us both in the making of costume with ever more authentic patterns and methods. From robust soldier’s clothes to the exquisite embroidery of a Tudor banqueting gown, we have turned our hands to many things. More than 30 years later, Jacqualine decided to take this a step further and offer clothing for sale to others.
My skills are in pattern making, cutting and constructing clothing that is practical and comfortable to wear whilst being as authentic as budgets and modern materials allow. I do not do original research, investigating extant clothing or studying large numbers of paintings. However, I learn from those who do and try to turn that learning into clothing that we can all wear. Please see the references page for acknowledgments to those who have inspired me and continue to inspire the increasing authenticity of re-enactment costume in general.
I look forward to creating something authentic, practical and well-made for you and possibly something exquisite too.
